Another birth video - 'hands off' approach

Here's another great birth video. The reason I like this one is because the midwife keeps a 'hands off' approach - in other words, does not fiddle, touch, put any sort of pressure on the baby's head, or interfere in any way.

I have removed the actual video and have provided the link only, because the video is very graphic. Having said that, it is a wonderful video to show children and young people so that they can learn about birth.

As you can see, I have put the video back into my blog again - have a look at the comments to see how people feel about me posting this video on my blog. I think I'll have to have a poll about this issue.

I just realized..there are a few to watch....

Thanks for sharing them...

I really enjoyed the diversity....

Thanks for that. I don't want to put a whole heap of videos here because it is just as easy for you to find them in YouTube. But I'm collecting them for my students and I really loved this one as well as the twin water birth.

It is so rare these days to see/hear anything about natural birth of twins - sadly, twin birth is considered high risk (which of course, at times it can be) and twins are usually delivered by cesarean section.

I never saw the twin birth one...I must have missed it.

Will take a look at it now...

I think this video and birth are just perfect. Well done in finding it Sarah. I agree the midwife is a true facilitator of this birth expereince helping the couple to do it on their own, but present and ready to step in if needed. The video is great for us but I am a wee bit worried about the camera angle and the openness of the video in a blog. Do you think it could be a problem for children if they happened by? (Maybe I am just being a bit overly sensitive here). What do you think? I know YouTube have a step that needs to be followed before a video like this can be viewed. Would parental blocks work on a blog like this? I would not have a problem with a child seeing this but I think there should be parental support and guidance if this was to happen.
I do think this is a fantastic video to demonstrate what women can really do when they are well supported and the space is created to allow such an experience.

amazing! it says birth 8.. do you think this means it was her 8th baby, or the 8th version of the video..? incredible birth to watch. Once you get over the idea that you're watching a stranger give birth! But in this day and age, I guess its the only way to witness such a thing.

Oh dear Carolyn, do you think I should take this video of my blog and just put the link? What do others think?

It's a great clip. I couldn't be bothered following the steps at youtube to access it though - so I wouldn't bother - too much effort - so thats a shame. This is a blog with midwifery content so i think it belongs in the context of your blog. Re: kids watching - if parents have an issue they can monitor their children's computer activities. I think it is so positive I can't see it any other way than a woman birthing well. Lots of people don't ever have access to this view and there is so much anxiety about birthing and what happens that I think it is positive and in fact quite important.

Thank you to all of you for leaving me your views on whether I should post this video or not. All the opinions are very valid, but what made me decide to post this video was that YouTube makes it quite difficult for people to access this video - rightly so, you may say.

But this is a midwifery blog, and I think it is unlikely that children will be 'surfing' here. I also think it is a beautiful birth video that is very appropriate to show children. So thank you, Carolyn, for starting this very interesting discussion.

I agree with your decision, but glad we had the discussion.

I'm a midwifery student and I'm trying to view this video but keep getting message saying it's private. How can I see it?

Kim: looks like the video has been made private since I posted it here 6 years ago. Nothing I can do about it. Sorry. Sarah
